Zipcar Is Making a Transformation to its Car-Borrowing Biz

Zipcar is making weather changes to take on a huge brand-new rival entering the car-sharing area. General Motors’ & rsquo; freshly launched service Maven provides consumers the ability to rent an automobile for as little as an hour, just like Zipcar has for years. The initiative began as a pilot program at the University of Michigan school and is now readily available across Ann Arbor, Mich. To deal with GM’s efforts, Zipcar is introducing a new “& ldquo; flexible service” & rdquo; choice that will let customers lease vehicles indefinitely without needing to set a return area ahead of time. The program will present throughout select North American cities throughout the year. Maven’& rsquo; s service is more minimal for now, but GM is investing aggressively to adapt to the ways that car use is changing. In addition to Maven, the company is investing $500 million into Lyft in a quote to develop driverless automobile technology. Still, Zipcar says GM isn’& rsquo; t a big concern at the moment. “& ldquo; We feel that GM is late to the game, but again, we discover it verifying that more business are acknowledging the value of car sharing,” & rdquo; the company told The Detroit News.
